Hello friends,
Iam a bit sad today because I got some devastating news tonight. A friend from the Rescue Squad where I was a member for 17 years is very ill in the hospital tonight in Philadelphia. His name is Doug and he has lymphoma and had a liver transplant some years ago.
He was doing fairly well with a new more aggresive chemo. He was even taking calls here and there at the squad. He recently had a PET scan that even showed he was improving. All of this changed in a blink of an eye. Yesterday he felt short of breath and went to the hospital. After some blood work they found 1300 blood sugar, potassium was through the roof and he was severely dehydrated..He walked into the ER and a few hours later he was being taken by ambulance to Hospital of the University of Pennsyvania where he was placed on a vent and found to be in liver and kidney failure. The doctors believe he has a virus so he's on broad spectrum antibiotics and on round the clock diaylisis.. His chances at this point only God knows. We are praying and that is all we can do. So you see in an instant your world can change. I ask you to please take time for your loved ones. Make amends with those that you are in conflict with, take the time to be with your family. Life is so unpredictable, in a moment it can be gone!
